Who is required to have this Certification? |
Food service employees of establishments
that are
licensed by the state of Florida’s:
Department of Business
and Professional Regulation
Division of Hotels and Restaurants
|
|
|
|
Division of Hotels and Restaurants |
|
Florida Statute 509.049
requires all food service employees who are responsible for
storage, preparation, display, or service of foods in public food
establishments regulated by the Florida DBPR, Division of Hotels and
Restaurants must be trained and certified on the food safety standards set
forth in Section 61C-4.023(6), Florida Administrative Code, and the edition
of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration Food Code currently adopted by the
division. Training topics must include professional hygiene and foodborne
disease prevention.
These standards shall not include an examination, but shall provide for a
food safety training certificate program for food service employees.
Certification pursuant to this section shall remain valid for 3 years. |
|
|
How Do I Get Certified? |
|
In order to
become a Certified Food Safety Employee (CFSE), food service employees must,
within their first 60 days of employment, complete a basic food safety training
program. The training program must be one that is approved by the Florida DBPR,
Division of Hotels and Restaurants and the training provider must maintain at
all times, on their premises, written documentation of food service employees
they have trained.
Upon
completion of the required training, the food service employee will receive
certification and be provided with written proof of completion by the approved
training provider.
Food Safety First!
used in the training provided by Safe Food Systems, is an example of a food safety training program approved by the
division to train and certify food service employees.
